Dental braces are devices inserted in the mouth by orthodontists to align and straighten teeth to improve facial appearance, overall dental health, and ease the chewing process. Depending on the extent to which the teeth are misaligned, a specialist will recommend the right treatment for you.

There are majorly two types of braces classified on the grounds of the material used:

  1. Traditional Braces: The regular metal braces that are clearly visible and not removable.
  2. Invisalign Aligners: Invisible tray-like braces that can be removed as and when required.

How do braces work?

The traditional wired braces work by exerting pressure on the teeth for extended periods. The pressure is exerted on the membrane underneath the gums, which roots the teeth to the jaw. Over time, this membrane responds to the pressure exerted and move the teeth in the required position.

Unlike traditional metal frame braces, Invisalign works through a series of clear aligners. Each of these aligners puts pressure in the right place to move the tooth and also provides a small space for the tooth to move into after the right place.

How are braces or Invisalign fixed to the teeth?

In the case of traditional braces, the process of fixing braces starts by fixing small steel square brackets on each tooth using glue. Elastic bands are then placed around the bracket to exert pressure on the jaw.

At the next stage, arch-wires made up of nickel, titanium, or stainless steel is used to connect the brackets. This step is followed by placing a buccal tube to one of the molars. With the use of this buccal tube, your orthodontist can tighten or release different parts of the braces during regular visits.

Invisalign, on the other hand, are computer-generated to meet the different needs of patients with unique requirements. The moulds are made up of photosensitive liquid resin that hardens when exposed to the laser. These moulds are responsible for straightening teeth without showing up!

Braces are the best and most effective treatment for teeth alignment. Visit your dentist now and inquire about the cost of braces or Invisalign to make a final call. But remember- When your smile is on the line, don't compromise with the treatment. Keep smiling!
